Cut and Prepare the Graphite

Apply Resin and Roll the Blank
Prepare the resin exactly as directed by its manufacturer. Measure the components carefully and mix them thoroughly. Incomplete mixing or an incorrect ratio can prevent the resin from curing properly.
Apply a thin, even coating to the graphite. Too little resin can leave weakly bonded areas, while excessive resin adds weight and may produce uneven sections. Work methodically from one area to the next so the entire sheet receives consistent coverage.
Position the coated graphite on the mandrel and begin forming it into a cylinder. Maintain even pressure as you roll, keeping the edges aligned along the length of the blank. Avoid wrinkles, gaps and uncontrolled overlaps. A simple jig, guide or wrapping arrangement can make it easier to maintain alignment while the layers are consolidated.
Cure the Blank Carefully
Curing is the stage that turns the resin-coated graphite into a rigid composite structure. Use the curing method, temperature and time specified for the resin system you selected. There is no universal schedule that should be applied to every resin.
Keep the temperature as consistent as possible during curing. Large fluctuations or insufficient curing time can leave sections with different levels of hardness. Do not rush the process; allow the blank to cure fully before removing it from the mandrel or attempting further shaping.
Finish and Inspect the Blank
After curing, remove the blank carefully and inspect its full length. Look for visible wrinkles, resin-rich areas, pinholes, uneven taper, soft sections or signs that the layers shifted during rolling. Check the diameter at several points and compare the measurements with your design.
Minor surface irregularities may be smoothed cautiously, but sanding should never be used to hide structural defects. If the blank has a significant gap, damaged fibre, serious unevenness or an incompletely cured area, it is safer to treat it as a failed piece rather than build a rod around it.
